Ditty No. 1

What is the main message of the video? Compare its idea of land ownership against the Bible’s teaching about who truly owns the land of Canaan (Palestine).

This land is mine – the video shows the viewer a funny and cartoon animation of the people who occupied Canaan/Palestine. It features the early cavemen up to the present day confusion coming from the State of Israel and the Freedom fighters/Terrorist. From what I watched, there are two messages from the video, the first is the illustration itself which shows the different occupants of the land and the other message comes from the lyrics of the song. I think, the overall message of the video is that no one really owns the land but each group thinks they own the land and that God gave it to them. In the animation, each and every man who came into the picture was singing the same song. So I think, that was the message the creator was trying to say to its viewers.

For me though, I can interpret the video in a different way because of a different perspective. The lyrics of the song says, “This land is mine, God gave it to me”. For me, the video could also mean that Abraham is the one singing the song with claims to ownership of the land because God gave it to him. This coincides with the Bible’s teaching about who truly owns the land of Canaan. The Bible says that God made a promise to Abraham to give him a land where his descendants would live. Since He is the only true and living God, He can give any land to anyone whom He chooses, and He chose Abraham. This indicates that the land belongs to the children of Israel.

In the video, we see many different kinds of people occupying the land, but for me, they never owned the land. They were only able to conquer the land because God permitted it. At the end of it all, I still believe that the Israelites are the real owners of the land.
